ARAS (Asociația Română Anti-SIDA) is a Romanian non-governmental organisation founded in Bucharest in 1992 by young volunteers to inform the public about HIV/AIDS. It now works on HIV, hepatitis B and C and other sexually transmitted infection prevention, harm reduction for people who use drugs, addiction treatment, and support for people living with HIV and their families. Its services include substitution treatment, free rapid testing, PrEP, counselling, social and legal referrals, and street outreach with a mobile unit. Its work is delivered through centres in Bucharest, Cluj, Timișoara, Iași and Constanța, with volunteers, mostly students, involved in school education and community campaigns. ARAS is a member of several national and international HIV and harm reduction networks and has public-benefit status in Romania, allowing taxpayers to direct a share of their income tax to it.
