Asia Indigenous Peoples Network on Extractive Industries and Energy
Baguio City, Benguet, Philippines
About
Founded in 2013, Asia Indigenous Peoples Network on Extractive Industries and Energy is a non-profit network based in Baguio City, Philippines working on human rights, environment & climate.
AIPNEE is a regional platform for solidarity and support for Indigenous communities affected by state- and corporate-sponsored extractive and energy projects in their territories. It is a network of Indigenous defenders and their organisations working with or supporting affected communities across Asia. Registered in the Philippines as a non-profit organisation, it was initiated by Indigenous peoples in Asia and established in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in March 2013. The network seeks to raise Indigenous concerns about extractive and energy projects, promote shared positions on Indigenous rights, including lands, territories, resources and self-determination, and expose abuses by states and businesses. Its work includes advocacy and campaigning, including complaints to national contact points under the OECD Guidelines, submissions to development finance institutions such as the IFC, KfW and the Asian Development Bank, and joint statements on cases in countries including India, Nepal and Indonesia. Its Steering Committee provides strategic direction and approves the annual programme and budget, and a Philippine Board of Trustees oversees financial management.
