Asociatia umanitara SPRO (also presented as Asociatia Speranta pentru Romania) is a Romanian humanitarian association. It provides financial and material help to people in need, with a focus on children with cancer and leukaemia, children with rare skin conditions such as epidermolysis bullosa, elderly people living alone or on the street, street children, orphans, widowed mothers and large poor families. Cases are selected after a social investigation carried out at the beneficiary's home or hospital. Funds are raised mainly through online and SMS campaigns on Facebook and its donation platform sperantapentruepidermoliza.ro, bank transfers, and corporate sponsorship contracts. Donations are sometimes paid directly to hospitals, pharmacies or suppliers, and the association maintains a rolling reserve fund to advance urgent treatment costs. Beneficiaries are mostly based in Romania, with some cases treated in hospitals abroad. The association was established in autumn 2009, following humanitarian activity that began in 2007 in the Oravita area of Caras-Severin county. Donors may also redirect 3.5% of their income tax or 20% of corporate profit tax to the association.
