Associação Portuguesa dos Doentes de Huntington
Lisboa, Portugal
About
Founded in 2001, Associação Portuguesa dos Doentes de Huntington is a non-profit association based in Lisboa, Portugal working on health, medical research.
The Associação Portuguesa dos Doentes de Huntington (APDH) is a non-profit association recognised as an IPSS (Portuguese social solidarity institution) since 2003. It was founded in late 2001 in Alvor by people affected by Huntington's disease, their relatives and friends, in response to the isolation families feel after a diagnosis. Based in Lisbon, it works nationwide, with regional support groups in the North and Centre, to provide support and guidance to families affected by Huntington's disease, raise awareness of the rare hereditary neurological condition, reduce stigma, promote specialised medical care and encourage research and training of health professionals. Its members are volunteers, and its activities are funded by member contributions and donations.
