The Banco de Alimentos de la Diócesis de Riohacha - La Guajira is a food bank operating as an ecclesial body of the Catholic Diocese of Riohacha. Founded in 2019, it is the first food bank in La Guajira, Colombia. It rescues surplus food from agriculture and retail, then distributes it to vulnerable families and institutions through community kitchens, mobile distribution, daily school breakfasts and satellite feeding points in Riohacha, Maicao and Manaure. It also trains community food-security leaders, supports productive initiatives in Wayuu communities and works to reduce food loss and waste. It is a member of the national food bank network ABACO and works with corporate, public and private allies, donors and volunteers.
