Buzău Land

Buzău Land is a sustainable development initiative run by the non-profit Asociația Ținutul Buzăului (Buzău Land Association). It works in a rural territory of roughly 1,036 km² in the Carpathian Bend Area of Romania, spanning 18 communes and about 45,000 residents. The initiative develops the area as a sustainable destination and community development territory, using its natural and cultural heritage. Its work covers sustainable tourism, civic involvement, education, the local economy and environmental protection. The area was validated as a UNESCO Global Geopark in April 2022. The initiative also runs an online shop whose proceeds support local artisans and development, and it works with local artisans, communes and community groups.
