About
Founded in 1885, CAI Fiume is a non-profit association based in San Vito di Cadore, Italy working on nature & wildlife conservation, heritage.
CAI Fiume is the Sezione di Fiume of the Club Alpino Italiano, a non-profit association operating as an Ente del Terzo Settore. It traces its origins to the Club Alpino Fiumano, founded in Fiume in 1885, and was re-established after the exodus from Fiume, Istria and Dalmatia following the Second World War. The section organises hiking and mountaineering outings and social events, and maintains the Rifugio Città di Fiume, a mountain hut in Val Fiorentina near the Pelmo, in the municipality of San Vito di Cadore, Italy. The hut is run by the cooperative Arcanda, which focuses on environmental education. The section also publishes the magazine Liburnia, which has appeared since 1902, and preserves the history and memory of the Fiume alpine community and its lost huts. It has over 300 members plus about 80 associate members, based across Italy and abroad. In 2012 the Comitato Centrale recognised it as a Sezione particolare of the CAI.
