Centrum komunitného organizovania (CKO) is a Slovak civic organisation registered in 1999. It supports active citizen participation in public decision-making and works to build a more active, open, democratic and tolerant civil society in Slovakia. Its main programme is community organising, with a particular focus on excluded Roma communities in the Banská Bystrica region and other localities. The organisation runs the Školy za demokraciu education programme for primary and secondary schools, which uses workshops on critical thinking, living libraries and human rights education to prevent extremism and radicalisation. It also coordinates the NIE V NAŠOM MESTE platform in Banská Bystrica, the TRACE platform documenting antisemitism and anti-Roma racism, and the OKO civic centre in Zvolen. The organisation publishes community organising tools and methodologies, runs campaigns and podcasts, and takes part in international exchanges and Erasmus-funded projects with partners in Central and Eastern Europe and the United States.
