About
Founded in 2016, Certified Humane Latino is a non-governmental organisation based in Brazil working on animal welfare.
Certified Humane Latino is the Latin American and Asian arm of Certified Humane, the certification programme run by Humane Farm Animal Care (HFAC), a US-based non-profit. The Instituto Certified Humane, a non-profit organisation, manages the programme in the region. It independently audits and certifies farms, slaughterhouses and food producers against species-specific animal welfare standards covering the animal's life from birth to slaughter, and it offers a label that lets consumers choose products from higher-welfare production. The programme began in Brazil in 2008 and has since expanded across Latin America and into Asia from 2018. Its scientific committee and standards experts are drawn from several countries. The organisation also runs educational materials, producer training and guides on cage-free and welfare-focused farming, with the aim of improving the lives of farmed animals and shifting market demand towards more humane production.
