The Childrens Shelter Foundation is a registered non-profit foundation under Thai law, based in Chiang Mai, northern Thailand. It runs a residential and school project for children and young people, mainly from hill tribe villages in northern Thailand and the Myanmar border area, many of whom have no legal status or have experienced neglect, abuse, poverty or trauma. The foundation provides a family-style home, schooling, vocational training and support as young people move into independent lives. Its approach combines curative education and modern psychology, and it also offers training and networking for social professionals and parents, runs an organic farm as a learning space, and accepts volunteers and interns. The project was founded in 2006 by Ulrike Meister and is supported largely by donations and sponsorships, including through a German non-profit association.
