CREATS International, also known as the Center for Rural Empowerment and Agricultural Transformation for Sustainability, is a grassroots, community-based organisation founded in 2015 in Homa Bay County, Kenya, by a group of young people led by Dr. Willis Ochieng. It works with marginalised rural communities, especially women and youth, to address the social, cultural and economic barriers that limit food security and prosperity. Its work covers sustainable agriculture and food security, the supply of quality agricultural inputs such as improved maize seed and garden seeders, agricultural training, climate-resilient development, and access to clean water and renewable energy. Its approach combines indigenous knowledge with science-driven solutions and emphasises community-led, participatory development in partnership with donors, foundations and implementing partners. The organisation was registered as a U.S. 501 nonprofit in May 2023, which coincided with an expansion of its programmes beyond food security into rural infrastructure, including clean water and clean energy. It operates in Kenya and maintains a United States office.
