About

Cumberland Community Forest Society is a charity based in Cumberland, Canada working on nature & wildlife conservation, environment & climate, water & sanitation +1 more.

The Cumberland Community Forest Society is a grassroots charitable not-for-profit society based in Cumberland, on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. It works to purchase, protect and restore the Cumberland Forest, a forested landscape bordering the Village of Cumberland that forms part of the Trent and Puntledge watersheds and a biodiversity corridor linking mountains and lakes to the Salish Sea. Lands are purchased from private timber companies and returned to community ownership as protected parkland, with conservation covenants registered to secure their future. The society also runs community programmes including the Western Toad Project, the Perseverance Creek Streamkeepers, winter bird and bat projects, and a volunteer naturalist programme. It is supported by donors and community events, and was formed around 25 years ago. Its work centres on the Comox Valley and surrounding region, in the traditional territory of the K'ómoks First Nation.
