Detstvo deťom

Founded in 2013, Detstvo deťom is a non-profit association based in Dobšiná, Slovakia working on children & youth, education, community development.

Detstvo deťom is a civic association founded in 2013 by two primary school teachers in Dobšiná, Slovakia. It works with children and families living in generational poverty, mainly from Roma communities in Dobšiná and Rejdová. Its approach focuses on early childhood care and on strengthening parents' skills, so that children can reach school age ready to learn. Its main base is the Domček parent centre in Dobšiná, and it also works in families' homes and in play rooms set up in excluded localities. Activities include early childhood care, parenting support, reading with children, a book and toy lending library, creative workshops, preschool preparation, family meetings, outings, and a youth club for adolescent girls. The association is run by a team of staff and volunteers, and it is funded by individual donations, including the 2% personal income tax designation available to Slovak organisations, as well as by EU-co-financed projects and grants.
