About
Founded in 1898, Dyreværnet is a non-profit association based in Rødovre, Denmark working on animal welfare.
Dyreværnet is a Danish non-profit animal welfare association, founded on 11 March 1898 as Foreningen til Værn for Værgeløse Dyr. It works to protect companion animals in Denmark, rescuing and rehoming dogs, cats, rabbits and other small pets from neglect, abuse and unnecessary euthanasia. The association runs animal shelters in Rødovre and Kolding, a veterinary clinic in Rødovre, mobile clinics for socially vulnerable citizens, and dog boarding services. It also investigates reports of animal neglect, engages in dialogue with authorities on animal welfare policy, and publishes expert pet-care articles. The organisation is almost entirely privately funded, relying on donations, legacies, corporate sponsors and volunteers, with about 140 volunteers and roughly 60 staff.
