EAPN Portugal is the Portuguese national member of the European Anti Poverty Network (EAPN), an independent network of non-governmental organisations and groups working to combat poverty and social exclusion. Founded as a social solidarity association in 1991, it works nationally through 18 district nuclei and a branch in Funchal, Madeira. Its activities include research and action-research projects, policy opinions and public position statements, thematic working groups, information and training, support to frontline organisations, awareness campaigns and direct social services such as residential care, day centres and home support for children, older people, people with disabilities and homeless people. It is governed by a national board and relies on volunteers and associate members.
