About
Eestimaa Looduse Fond is a non-governmental organisation based in Tartu, Estonia working on nature & wildlife conservation, environment & climate.
Estonian Fund for Nature (Eestimaa Looduse Fond, ELF) is an Estonian non-profit foundation working on nature conservation. It organises volunteer conservation holidays (talgud) across Estonia, where participants carry out habitat restoration work such as bog and wetland restoration, meadow management and building water dams, alongside guided hikes and encounters with local rangers and guides. ELF also runs annual theme years highlighting threatened or overlooked species, including bats, capercaillie, frogs, orchids and small islands, and runs public events such as bat excursions, bog concerts and insect walks. Its work includes awareness raising on the value of peatlands as carbon sinks and water reservoirs. Since 2001 it has held hundreds of volunteer events, reporting more than 15,000 participants and over 131,000 hours of work. Some work is funded by the EU LIFE programme and RMK. Activities are mainly conducted in Estonian, with English-language holidays offered on some occasions.
