About
Founded in 2009, El Comedor de la Kennedy is a non-governmental organisation based in San Juan, Puerto Rico working on poverty & hunger, children & youth.
El Comedor de la Kennedy is a non-profit organisation based in San Juan, Puerto Rico, founded in 2009 by Chef Iván Clemente. It works to eradicate food insecurity in Puerto Rico by providing free meals and food distribution to vulnerable children and elderly people, as well as to other community organisations, schools and government departments. The organisation states it receives no government funding for its work and relies on donations of food and money, volunteers and private entities. It reports distributing roughly 2.5 to 3.5 million pounds of food per month across the metropolitan area and the island, and says it also operates in several countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. Donations of food can be made on weekdays at its San Juan location, and monetary donations and volunteering are also invited.
