Emaus Małopolska

Founded in 1999, Emaus Małopolska is a non-profit association based in Nowy Sącz, Poland working on housing & homelessness, poverty & hunger.

Emaus Małopolska is the Nowy Sącz-based association Nowosądeckie Towarzystwo Pomocy im. św. Brata Alberta, part of the Emmaus movement founded in France. It runs a shelter and overnight accommodation for homeless people at ul. Szwedzka 18 in Nowy Sącz, distributes food aid to families in need in cooperation with local social welfare centres, and funds its work through second-hand shops (kiermasze) in Nowy Sącz and Kraków, where donated furniture, clothing, electronics and books are repaired in its workshops and sold at low prices. Its sales income supports the community. The association holds public benefit status (organizacja pożytku publicznego), so taxpayers can allocate 1.5% of their income tax to it. The community has operated in Nowy Sącz since 1999 and in Kraków since 2003.
