FES Brasil is the Brazilian office of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, a German political foundation linked to social democracy and free trade unions. Founded in its parent body in 1925 and active in Brazil since 1985, it works in São Paulo and Brasília on democracy, social justice, sustainable economic development, peace and security, and Brazil's and the world's regional and global politics. Its activities include conferences and seminars (around 120 a year), publications and analysis, research, internship programmes, and cooperation with political parties, trade unions, universities and civil society organisations. The foundation describes itself as a private, non-profit institution of public utility that works autonomously and independently. It also coordinates with FES offices across Latin America and the Caribbean.
