FiTiCAS is a citizen-initiated community land trust founded in 2019 as the first agrarian community land trust in Puerto Rico. It secures farmland and related common goods, such as housing and shared economic and cultural spaces, and holds it in perpetuity for agroecological and sustainable food production. Its work supports landless and insecurely housed farmers, promotes land access through donations, inheritance and medium- or long-term use agreements, and builds networks for fair distribution of agricultural products. It also runs incubators for new farmers, educational resources, and advocacy on land tenure, food sovereignty and climate justice. The organisation operates across the islands of Puerto Rico and holds a tax-exempt status under section 501 of the US Internal Revenue Code and section 1101.01 of the Puerto Rico Internal Revenue Code.
