About
Founded in 2018, FloweRescue is a non-profit association based in Helsinki, Finland working on environment & climate, elderly care, community development +1 more.
FloweRescue is a Helsinki-based nonprofit association and volunteer community. It rescues surplus and waste flowers from wholesalers, florists and event producers, which would otherwise be discarded, and redistributes them to elderly care homes, hospitals, charities and community art projects. Its work addresses two aims: reducing floral waste and sustainability problems in the floral industry, and reducing loneliness and social exclusion among elderly people, people in institutions, young people and refugees. The community formed in December 2018 in response to local floral waste. Volunteers meet weekly to sort, compost unusable stems, and clean and rehydrate usable flowers. The association also runs bouquet workshops with residents of care homes, often led by volunteer florists.
