Fondazione Scalabrini is a non-profit foundation founded in 2004 in Como, Italy. It helps families in Como and its province who are temporarily in housing need, usually families referred by Social Services, parishes, cooperatives or other local bodies. The foundation makes furnished apartments available for temporary stays, often for around one year, and gives micro-credit for rent. Families contribute to accommodation costs and receive support to address the wider difficulties that led to housing loss, such as work, health or social problems. The foundation also works with private landlords who lend or rent their properties to it, with the landlord receiving rent and costs covered for a set period. Its own running costs are stated to be below 10% of the funds it raises. Volunteers help with maintenance, transport, administration and other tasks. The foundation is registered in the Italian Third Sector Register (RUNTS) as an ETS.
