Amigos del Mar is a non-profit foundation founded in 2015 in Cartagena, Colombia. It works on Tierra Bomba island with children and young people from socially disadvantaged backgrounds. Its main activities are school reintegration combined with nautical sports training (surf, windsurf, stand up paddle and kite-surf), complementary education workshops in art, recycling, environment and languages, and beach clean-ups. Its Clean Wave Project exchanges plastic collected from beaches for benefits and turns recycled plastic into sports and recreational products. The foundation also runs a youth surf talent programme that takes young athletes to championships, and it hosts volunteers from Colombia and abroad. It is supported by donations, memberships and sponsorships, and it reports that more than 50 children have been returned to school since 2015.
