Fundamedios is a regional non-profit organisation based in Quito, Ecuador, with a US address in Washington DC. It works for democracy and human rights, leading the defence, protection and promotion of freedom of expression, freedom of association, access to information, digital rights and information integrity in the Americas. Its work includes monitoring and public alerts on violations against journalists and media, training and capacity building, network building, media literacy and advocacy. It also runs a protection area for journalists and media workers at risk, and publishes annual reports on the state of press freedom in Ecuador and the region. It describes the state as a main aggressor of press freedom in its 2025 annual report. Its monitoring follows an internal methodology with alert classification by severity and type of aggression.
