About

Founded in 2000, Lar da Tabua is a charity based in Tabua, Portugal working on children & youth, elderly care.

The Lar da Tabua, formally the Centro Social Paroquial da Santíssima Trindade da Tabua, is a private social solidarity institution (IPSS) and non-profit public-utility body in the Tabua parish of Ribeira Brava, Madeira, Portugal. It was founded on 20 March 2000 by a group of parishioners and operates in cooperation with the Madeira Social Security Centre. The institution runs two residential care areas: a senior area for older people and a children and youth area. Its children and youth units include an infant unit for babies and children aged 0 to 12 and a juvenile unit for young people aged 10 to 17 in child protection care. The senior and children's units share one building, which the organisation describes as the only intergenerational residential facility in the Autonomous Region of Madeira. The centre also runs leisure, educational and social-skills activities, parental skills programmes, and community events. It accepts in-kind donations such as clothing, footwear, toys, school materials and hygiene products, and invites volunteers. Donors can allocate a share of their IRS income tax to the institution using its NIPC. The organisation's mission is to build sustained, integrated social responses for childhood, youth and seniors, open to the population of the region.
