Primeros Pasos

Founded in 2002, Primeros Pasos is a non-governmental organisation based in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala working on health, children & youth, poverty & hunger.

Primeros Pasos is a Guatemalan, women-led non-profit organisation providing comprehensive health care in the rural Palajunoj Valley of Quetzaltenango, Guatemala. It began in 2002 as a children's clinic serving students in the Valley's primary schools and later opened to walk-in patients of all ages. Its affordable walk-in clinic offers medical, dental, pharmacy and laboratory services. Its community outreach program focuses on nutrition for mothers and children, runs school-based mobile clinics and provides health education. The organisation works across the Valley's ten communities, where residents face poverty, limited basic services and environmental problems linked to a municipal dump. Primeros Pasos relies on volunteers, donations of medicines and supplies, and a US fiscal sponsor, the Inter-American Health Alliance.
