PRO INDÍGENA is a Swiss non-profit association, founded in 1956 as Assistance Suisse aux Indiens d'Amérique latine (Schweizer Indianerhilfe) and renamed in 2011, which supports indigenous communities in Latin America. It funds and advises locally led projects in primary health, hygiene, nutrition, education, drinking water, sanitation and sustainable agriculture, mainly in the border regions of southern Mexico and Guatemala. Projects are implemented by local partners, and the association aims to hand projects over to the communities. Its board works on a voluntary basis. The association is non-political and non-denominational, does not run disaster relief operations, and focuses on medium-term development work. Donations are supported by a semi-annual bulletin and annual donation receipts.
