About
Founded in 2001, Riksorganisationen GAPF is a non-profit association based in Stockholm, Sweden working on gender equality, human rights, children & youth +1 more.
Riksorganisationen GAPF (Glöm Aldrig Pela och Fadime) is a politically and religiously unaffiliated, secular, non-profit association working against honour-related violence and oppression in Sweden. Founded in 2001 by Sara Mohammad under the name Glöm Aldrig Pela-föreningen, it was renamed after the murder of Fadime Sahindal in 2002. It serves all people who are affected by or involved in honour-related violence and oppression, and its work is organised around three pillars: support services, education and advocacy. The support line offers confidential counselling, information on rights, help contacting authorities, psychological support sessions and legal advice through partner law firms. GAPF trains school staff, social services, healthcare, police and prosecutors, and runs around fifty advocacy activities a year, including the annual Fadimedagarna and Fadimegalan events. It has also campaigned for stronger laws against female genital mutilation, protection of personal data for at-risk people, and measures against the abduction of children. GAPF operates across Sweden, starting in Greater Stockholm and expanding nationally. Its work is funded mainly by donations, membership fees and grants, and it states that 95 per cent of total income goes directly to its purposes, based on a three-year average.
