About
Founded in 1984, Roks is a non-profit network based in Stockholm, Sweden working on gender equality, children & youth.
Roks, the Swedish national organisation for women's and girls' shelters (kvinnojourer and tjejjourer), works against men's violence against women, girls and children. It is the only national organisation that works solely for and with voluntary women's and girls' shelters. Roks has around 70 member shelters across Sweden, provides training, networks and administrative support to them, runs advocacy towards politicians, authorities and media, submits consultation responses on legislation, and publishes the feminist magazine Kvinnotryck, research-based reports and the Aurora fund. The organisation was founded on 31 May 1984 and takes a feminist, separatist and politically and religiously non-aligned approach. Its member shelters offer support, counselling and help with safe housing to women, girls and children who have experienced violence.
