About

Founded in 1987, SAD-AFAG is a non-profit association based in Turkey working on nature & wildlife conservation, environment & climate.

SAD-AFAG is a Turkish non-profit association founded in 1987 and dedicated to protecting the Mediterranean monk seal (Monachus monachus) and its coastal and marine habitats. It is described as the first and only specialised civil society organisation in Turkey focused on this species. Its work covers scientific research and monitoring of seal populations and caves, seal rescue through the AFBİKA network, lobbying official bodies for protected area designations and coastal planning, fisheries cooperation with local fishers' cooperatives, environmental education in schools, public awareness campaigns, and the seal adoption programme. Activities are carried out along the Turkish Aegean, Mediterranean and Black Sea coasts, with regional offices in Karaburun, Foça, Bozyazı, Aydıncık, Datça, Bodrum and other locations, coordinated from Ankara. The organisation also publishes the Akdeniz Gezgini bulletin and organises the Rastgele documentary festival.
