Salvați Copiii România is a non-governmental organisation and public-utility association founded in Bucharest in 1990, as part of the Save the Children movement. It works to defend and promote children's rights and to ensure child protection in line with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Its three main priorities are reducing infant mortality, improving access to quality education for children in vulnerable communities, and protecting children from violence, neglect and abuse, including children left alone at home when parents migrate for work. The organisation runs programmes in health, education, child protection, emergency humanitarian response and advocacy. It also supports child refugees and pursues policy and legislative change, including work on the legal ban on corporal punishment. Activities are delivered through a head office in Bucharest, regional branches (filiale) and local offices in 14 counties and Bucharest. The organisation reports around 6,000 members and 2,500 active volunteers. Donations can be made online, by SMS, by direct debit, and through the 3.5% personal income tax redirection and 20% corporate profit tax redirection schemes.
