About

Founded in 1975, Squamish Search and Rescue is a community organisation based in Garibaldi Highlands, Canada working on humanitarian aid & disaster relief.

Squamish Search and Rescue Society is a volunteer, community-based charity providing 24/7 search and rescue services in and around Squamish, British Columbia. Its primary response area runs from Porteau Cove to Whistler and includes Stawamus Chief Provincial Park, the Sea to Sky Gondola, the Tantalus Range and parts of Garibaldi Provincial Park. Volunteer members deliver ground, water, rope, avalanche and aerial rescues, and provide mutual aid to other teams in the Lower Mainland. The organisation also runs public outdoor safety education, reaching around 1,500 children and adults each year. Founded in 1975, it became an independent charitable society in 2011, after search and rescue services were previously run by the District of Squamish. Members are unpaid and fund their own basic equipment, and donations are supported by tax receipts.
