Enskede, Sweden
About
Founded in 1875, Svenska Djurskyddsföreningen is a non-profit association based in Enskede, Sweden working on animal welfare.
Svenska Djurskyddsföreningen (the Swedish Association for the Protection of Animals) is a Stockholm-based member organisation working to improve animal welfare since 1875. It works to increase knowledge about animals, animal welfare, animal husbandry and animal law among the public, businesses and politicians, through information efforts and answering questions on animal welfare. It engages in dialogue with the livestock industry to develop animal welfare in production, funds scientific research into animal welfare, sponsors research and awards individuals who work for animals, and seeks to shape legislation from an animal perspective by responding to government consultations. It also campaigns on animal welfare issues, including grazing rights for dairy cows, restrictions on horse racing, fireworks and dog breeding, and works with national and international organisations. The association is funded by voluntary contributions and membership fees rather than state or municipal grants.
