The Small World

The Small World is a Nepali non-profit that supports locally driven, sustainable community development in Nepal, with a focus on education for vulnerable girls and children. It was established in 2005 as Taksindu Social Welfare, later renamed The Small World, and works mainly in remote villages of Solukhumbu district and in Kathmandu. Its work includes building schools, running a safe home for at-risk girls, sponsoring children's education, and providing safe drinking water, sanitation, agriculture support, women's empowerment programmes and a free medical camp. Projects are planned with local communities, which are expected to take ownership and leadership of them. The organisation is run by co-founders Karma Sherpa and Sonam Sherpa and is funded mainly by individual donors, sponsors and volunteers.
