verbal (Verband für Angewandte Linguistik) is a non-profit association based in Austria that promotes all areas of applied linguistics in Austria, with a focus on advancing and coordinating scientific development in cooperation with the International Association of Applied Linguistics (AILA). Its activities include publishing the Sprache im Kontext book series, issuing position statements on language-related policy, supporting linguistics workshops and events, and running a member newsletter and mailing service. It also hosts the Netzwerk SprachenRechte, which works on language rights and awareness campaigns, and it supports the Linguistics for Ukraine initiative for linguists affected by the war. The association serves as a forum for people working in applied linguistics in Austria and is a subsidiary organisation of AILA.
