World Needs is a Portuguese non-governmental organisation for development, constituted as a private non-profit association and recognised as a youth association by the IPDJ. Founded on 26 May 2020 by five young Portuguese people, it works mainly through volunteering to reduce social inequalities and protect the planet. Its areas of work include education, social assistance, climate change, and the protection of terrestrial and marine life. It runs initiatives such as coastal cleanups, a campaign against isolation among older people, pro bono legal support, psychology consultations, a volunteer training academy, and international volunteering missions, including one in Cape Verde. It also collects and delivers goods and toys to social solidarity institutions and has volunteered at a refugee reception centre in Przemyśl, Poland. The organisation states that it aims to promote the UN Sustainable Development Goals 2030 and operates across mainland Portugal and the islands. Membership is open to individuals and organisations that share its principles, with fees paid on a 12-month basis.
