Founded in 2022, 4N is a government headquartered in Vechta, Germany specializing in Solar.

4N (Nordwest Niedersachsen Nachhaltig Neu) is an interdisciplinary research consortium funded by the Lower Saxony Ministry for Science and Culture with €6 million through the Niedersächsisches Vorab program. Led by University of Vechta with partners Hochschule Emden-Leer, Jade University of Applied Sciences, and cooperation from Universities of Oldenburg and Göttingen, 4N researches transformative solutions for rural sustainability. The consortium addresses multiple interconnected challenges: climate change adaptation, biodiversity loss, demographic change, agricultural restructuring in intensive farming regions, coastal tourism pressures, industrial transition in Emden, and infrastructure fragility. Key focus areas include regenerative energy development (including field-margin photovoltaics), sustainable education, digitalization, health systems in rural areas, tourism management, governance, and urban-rural spatial planning. The project operates real-world laboratories across marsh, moorland, geest, and coastal environments.
