About
Founded in 2007, Africa-EU Energy Partnership is a ngo headquartered in Lisbon, Portugal specializing in Solar, Hydro, Hydrogen.
The Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP) is a central platform of the Joint Africa-EU Strategy established by African and European Heads of State at the 2007 AU-EU Summit in Lisbon. It serves as the primary political forum for bi-continental cooperation on energy. The AEEP addresses Africa's critical energy access challenge—with over 570 million people in sub-Saharan Africa lacking electricity access—by supporting political processes, mapping stakeholder actions, convening high-level dialogues, and enhancing data and knowledge for decision-making. The Partnership has set ambitious targets for renewable energy deployment, including solar and hydroelectric capacity expansion. Governed by a Steering Group comprising the African Union Commission, COMESA, Egypt, the European Commission, Germany, and Italy, the AEEP Secretariat is hosted by GIZ and funded by the European Commission and Germany. Since 2007, the Partnership has established itself as a key agenda-setter in international energy forums including UNFCCC COPs, G7, and G20 summits.
