About

Founded in 2006, alpha ventus is a private headquartered in Oldenburg, Germany specializing in Wind.

alpha ventus is Germany's first offshore wind farm, located approximately 45 kilometers north of the island of Borkum in the German exclusive economic zone. The project consists of 12 wind turbines with a total capacity of 60 MW (initially 5 MW class turbines). Commissioned on April 27, 2010, it serves as a pioneering testbed for offshore wind technology in deep water conditions, featuring both tripod and monopile foundation types at water depths around 30 meters. The wind farm has generated approximately 2.93 terawatts of electricity from 2010 to April 2025, exceeding production forecasts by about 7 percent. Operations are managed remotely from Oldenburg by EWE Offshore Service and Solutions GmbH, with maintenance performed by specialized crews using dedicated offshore vessels (Windforce II and Windforce III) and helicopter support. The project has been instrumental in establishing regulatory frameworks, technical standards, and environmental monitoring protocols that shaped Germany's offshore wind industry development.
