Founded in 2016, Ampersand Energy is a private headquartered in Kigali, Rwanda with approximately 500-1000 employees specializing in Energy Storage.

Ampersand Energy develops commercial electric motorcycles, lithium iron phosphate battery packs, and a battery-swapping network specifically designed for African markets. The company provides riders with pay-as-you-drive access to e-motorcycles and conducts battery swaps in under 2 minutes via a network of swap stations. Core technology includes AmperOps, a proprietary AI-enabled fleet management platform that uses predictive algorithms to optimize battery lifespan and health. Since 2016, the company has assembled vehicles and batteries in-house in Rwanda, expanded to Kenya, and serves commercial moto-taxi operators. Vehicles produce 75% less lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions than petrol motorcycles using grid power, and up to 97% less using renewables. The business model targets cost reduction for drivers while enabling rapid adoption of electric mobility in East Africa.
