About
Founded in 2022, Aquawind is a renewable energy company headquartered in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain specializing in Wind.
AquaWind is a European project co-funded by the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (Grant Agreement No 101077600) that demonstrates innovative multi-use integrated solutions combining offshore renewable energy with sustainable aquaculture. The project integrates the W2Power floating wind technology prototype with a tailor-made fish cage featuring advanced digitalization and species diversification. Operating from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the consortium includes 9 partners across multiple EU member states including universities, research organizations, maritime clusters, and commercial entities. The project successfully installed its prototype at the Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands in October 2025 and completed sea bream juvenile stocking in January 2026, marking the offshore validation phase. AquaWind aims to establish a model for Atlantic Basin regional blue economy development, shift away from exclusive resource rights toward inclusive resource sharing, and provide roadmaps for legal, regulatory, and social acceptance of multi-use ocean initiatives.
