Bürger-Energie-Niedereschach eG is a volunteer-led energy cooperative established in 2009 and registered as a cooperative in 2010. The organization operates local renewable energy projects including a district heating network (Wärmenetz), wood chip heating plant (Hackschnitzelanlage), and solar energy installations. The cooperative emphasizes local energy independence and sustainable resource management, with the motto 'Energie in Eigenregie' (Energy in Self-Management). As of 2025, the heating network produced 12.462 million kWh of heat annually, equivalent to 1.246 million liters of heating oil saved and 3.302 million kg of CO2 emissions avoided.
