Brussels, Belgium
About
Founded in 2018, BlueBio COFUND is a government headquartered in Brussels, Belgium specializing in Biomass, Biogas.
BlueBio COFUND was a coordinated research and development funding initiative established under the Horizon 2020 programme to strengthen Europe's position in the blue bioeconomy. Built on collaboration between JPI Oceans and former ERA-NETs COFASP and ERA MBT, it operated from December 2018 to May 2024 with 30 participating partners across 17 European countries. The initiative launched four funding calls addressing gaps across the blue bioeconomy value chain, from bioprospecting to processing and market applications, with technology readiness levels ranging from exploration to pilot scale. Total funding commitment reached EUR 30 million. BlueBio's legacy continues through Horizon Europe Partnerships on Sustainable Blue Economy and Sustainable Food Systems, the Mission to Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030, and the Circular Biobased Europe Joint Undertaking.
