About
Founded in 2003, Buergerwind Welzheim is a co-op headquartered in Welzheim, Germany specializing in Wind.
BürgerWind Welzheim is a citizen-owned wind energy cooperative established in 2003 by local residents Christof Stocker and Frieder Bareiß. The project operates a single 1,000 kW Fuhrländer wind turbine with a 70-meter hub height and 54-meter rotor diameter, located south of the Aichstrut water tower in Welzheim. The turbine became operational on December 23, 2004, making it the first wind power installation in the Rems-Murr district. Over approximately 19 years of operation, the facility has generated an average of 800,000 kWh annually of green electricity. Financing was achieved through 950,000 euros in community investment and subordinated loans. The facility continues operation beyond the initial 20-year EEG feed-in tariff period (ending December 2024) through direct electricity marketing. Maintenance is coordinated by Deutsche Windtechnik, with power transmission managed by VR Bank Schwäbischer Wald eG.
