About
Founded in 2016, Carestor is a renewable energy company headquartered in Tudela, Spain specializing in Energy Storage.
Carestor is a research and development project focused on advancing energy storage technology through innovative nanoporous carbon (NPC) materials for supercapacitors. The project aimed to scale-up production of unprecedented nanoporous carbons that outperform commercial competitors by 40-50% in energy storage per gram of material. Supercapacitors developed through this technology can handle large current loads up to 1 million cycles, extending battery life when used in hybrid energy storage systems (HESS). The project combined biomass processing with high-throughput activation strategies to produce materials with unique pore volume and electrical conductivity. Carestor received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (grant agreement No 730798) and concluded in December 2020, having established automated production lines and commercial agreements for market uptake.
