About
CircuBAT is a ngo headquartered in Bern, Switzerland specializing in Energy Storage.
CircuBAT is a collaborative research project led by Bern University of Applied Sciences (BFH) with participation from six Swiss research institutions (Empa, CSEM, University of St. Gallen, Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences, Switzerland Innovation Park Biel/Bienne, and EPFL). The project connects major stakeholders across the complete lifecycle of lithium-ion batteries, including industry, government, and NGOs. It comprises seven subprojects focused on: optimizing battery lifespan in first-use applications, developing dry electrode coating processes, maximizing first-life performance through data-based strategies, implementing second-life battery systems for stationary energy storage, modeling second-life battery aging for grid services, developing disassembly methods for component recovery and recycling, and establishing sustainable business models for circular battery economy. The project aims to reduce the ecological footprint of lithium-ion batteries used in electric mobility by closing resource loops and minimizing total lifecycle CO2 emissions.
