Headquartered in Lusatia—a region undergoing significant structural change in eastern Germany—the cluster operates as a nationwide interdisciplinary network mobilizing expertise and synergy effects to drive solutions and innovations at the interface of science, business, politics, and administration. The cluster's coordination office is managed by the KEI (a division of Zukunft Umwelt Gesellschaft gGmbH) on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. Key focus areas include integrated energy infrastructures, geothermal power, sector coupling, sustainable process heat generation, and alternatives to fossil fuels to support Germany's goal of achieving greenhouse gas neutrality by 2045.
