About
Founded in 2020, COBRA is a ngo headquartered in Spain specializing in Energy Storage.
COBRA is a collaborative research and innovation project co-funded by the European Commission's Horizon 2020 programme, running from January 2020 to June 2024. The project develops novel cobalt-free lithium-ion battery technology using LNMO cathodes combined with composite anodes based on nanometre silicon and graphite. The complete battery system integrates a smart Battery Management System with wireless communications, advanced micro-sensors for temperature and gas detection, and fire-resistant housing made from green and recycled materials. The technology targets automotive electric vehicle applications with specifications including 750 Wh/l energy density, 2000 cycle useful life, 3C fast charging capability, and 50% pack weight reduction. COBRA involves leading organizations for battery manufacturing and research across Europe, including IREC, Uppsala University, CIDETEC, Solvionic, and Resitec. The project aims to achieve a cost target of no more than €90/kWh at pack level for commercial production and 95% recyclability of metals at large scale.
