CoolHeating is an EU-funded research and innovation project under the Horizon 2020 programme (Grant Agreement No 691679) coordinated by WIP Renewable Energies in Munich, Germany. The project promotes the implementation of small modular renewable heating and cooling grids for communities in South-Eastern Europe. Core activities include techno-economical assessments, community engagement, capacity building on financing and business models, and knowledge transfer from established renewable district heating examples in Denmark, Germany, and Austria to partner countries in South-Eastern Europe. The project has initiated five small district heating grids in target communities up to the investment stage and conducted financial trainings in multiple cities (Ljutomer, Zagreb, Sarajevo, Šabac, Belgrade, and Skopje). Outcomes include a published handbook on small modular renewable heating and cooling grids, best practice example maps, and guidelines on improved business models and financing schemes.
