DeV-KopSys is a government-funded research initiative under the Fraunhofer Institute for Energy Economics and Energy Systems Technology (IEE) in Kassel, Germany. The project investigates robust and economically viable strategies to achieve climate goals through comprehensive energy system modeling and analysis. It encompasses multiple research areas including hydrogen and Power-to-X fuel production potentials, sector coupling of electricity, heating, transport and industry, grid expansion planning, and grid operations. Key research outputs include the global PtX Atlas showing worldwide potential for green hydrogen and synthetic fuels, energy system optimization models (EMPRISE, IEE.Opt, SCOPE), and scenario analyses for decarbonization pathways in transportation and heating sectors. The project collaborates with Fraunhofer Energy&Climate and the University of Kassel, addressing uncertainties in climate protection and energy transition across national and international levels.
